"Last year, my campus had the opportunity to implement a Behavior Reset Center (BRC), and we have seen our students make gains in regulating their emotions. The BRC provides students with a safe place to have and work through big emotions. Students who utilize the Behavior Reset Center are recognizing things that upset them and they are learning coping skills. With the support of our BRC paraprofessional, our students are reflecting on the antecedent to their behavior and social skills are used to shape appropriate behavior. More importantly, though, our students are learning to communicate their feelings appropriately, making our campus a safer and stronger community."

“Since I started in the BRC program at Ponderosa Middle School, I’ve noticed a lot of progress and changes in my students. I have an 8th grader who would get so frustrated that she would cuss at teachers, peers, and support staff. She would walk out of the classrooms knocking things over on the way out, leave campus to where she needed to be found and brought back to campus. This student is on probation for physical fighting. She was targeted as a bad student. Since I have worked with her the progress I’ve seen and experienced with her is she will now ask for a break, take a walk and return to class. She no longer cusses at teacher and staff in the building. She hasn’t left a classroom with out permission nor has she left campus. She now has a support person she trusts will always be there for her, she has turned in over 15 missing assignments, has passing grades and shows up to class on time and is ready to participate in class learning. Her progress is slow and uncomfortable, but it's going at her pace.”

“Before we had Behavior Reset Centers we were unable to complete our administrative duties effectively. We were constantly dealing with explosive behaviors and discipline and had no time for any other job duties. Our students were not getting what they needed and their behaviors continued to escalate. Now with the Behavior Reset Center we are shaping student behavior early and the climate and culture of our campus has completely shifted. We are so appreciative of Chelsea Long for creating such an amazing program that truly focuses on student, staff and district success.”
